busiest. week. ever.

cali: (transmet: going to hell)
I djed last Sunday night at the local hipster night and then again on Thursday night at a different place (put on by the same crew of kids) all last-minute-notice-like because they needed someone to fill in and I was all, huh, a chance to play Marvin Gaye and AC/DC Snoop Dogg and Prince back to back (to back to back) sure! In between the dj sets I was filling in answering phones at my dad's office all week starting at 8:30 in the morning (which, dude, is so not in keeping with my normal lazy college student hours that it's not even funny.) Plus I took park in the march/rally/protest thing on the 1st and I was copwatching at last night's Cinco de Mayo celebration, which went really well this year (as opposed to last year when the cops came out in riot gear and tear gas and basically escalated a primarily peaceful situation into a violent one.)

And then school on top of that. Which, okay, I totally want to punch one of my teachers in the face. He always makes these vast generalizations and pronouncements about things and people and makes horrifically uncomfortable politically incorrect jokes about things like how none of us would be here if our parents hadn't been drunk and about how it's not that bad that Freud was a misogynist bastard because women don't even like each other so why should Freud? and then he giggles at his 'jokes' in this obnoxious high-pitched tone while the rest of the class is cringing and going 'oh my god I want to stick a spork in my eye, no wait I want to stick a spork in your eye' and it's just so. so bad. I totally hate him. I have taken satisfaction in completely unnerving him for two classes in a row by just sitting there with a terribly unamused look on my face the entire class period and holding eye contact with him the whole time. I totally freaked him out on Thursday. It was awesome.

Unrelated to that, but referring back to the copwatch thing. This woman at the cinco de mayo event tried to give me a flier about her church and I took it not knowing what it was so then I handed it back to her and said something along the lines of, "I'm going to save you the flier because I'm not really interested and I'm never going to believe in it." At which point she launched into a whole 'I want to convert you and probably suck your blood, too' thing. It was very awkward. Our conversation went thusly:

religious conversions freak me the fuck out, man )

Um. And not that that surprise rant is over, on to things that people other than me might actually want to read about: I'd like to remind anyone who has friended me recently that I have a media filter on which I share things exciting things like tv shows (and on which I refrain from possibly offensive religious commentary) and if you're not on it and would like to be please leave a comment here.

PS: where are all the Supernatural mood themes man? I totally want one.

Amidst a busy day of not getting a tattoo and obsessively finishing a website for Food Not Bombs I completely forgot to post the last installment of Ewan McGregor's trip around the world. Mea Culpa! Here it is! Enjoy!
[ Ewan McGregor - Long Way Round - Part 7 ] -- avi, 345.mb
also, seriously, has lj still not fixed the damned tags problem? Because I just spent like, an hour trying to apply the things people in [livejournal.com profile] s2flexisquares suggested and all I've ended up with is an obnoxious bullet pointed tags list box that I can't seem to get rid of despite the fact that I removed that particular bit of coding. Sometimes I swear I hate livejournal.

  • The bike accident has given me a bit of a black eye. results: everything's all wonky and fuzzy in one eye now. Lame.

    Evidence: )

    Other things:
  • I had to go back to skip=370 to catch up to my friendslist.

  • I still get annoyed that xjournal's dictionary doesn't recognize 'xjournal' 'livejournal' and 'friendslist'.

  • These guys SUCK. A lot.

  • My mom is awesome. She taped Numb3rs, Desperate Housewives, AND Dom on Ellen for me without my even asking.

  • My dad got Tiger in the mail the other day. I'm going to wait for 10.4.1 to come out before I install it probably, but still. That's exciting.

Okay seriously, I cannot stand the half-blurred vision a moments longer. Bed.

You know what sucks? Going through 4 and a half gigabytes of bandwidth when only two people comment to tell me they've downloaded something. That sucks. And you know, I'm not the queen of the universe and I can't command people to comment, and I made the entry public so blah blah blah it's all my fault I shouldn't expect it but DUDE. How hard is it to click a few buttons and type a few words out? Not very! Hmph.

[livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore and [livejournal.com profile] fairy_tale_echo issued a drabble challenge for the newest Veronica Mars my contribution: )

I'm all jittery right now. I guess that's normal when you've just been about 6 inches from possible death by bus crushing? I refer you to this entry from almost exactly a year ago in which another dumbass driver ran into me.

I'm sure you are all more conscientious drivers than most of the people I come across while riding my bike but I would like to remind you all that bicyclists have all the same rights as a car and are allowed to take up an entire lane if necessary for their safety. It is also written in the law that cars must give bicyclists a three foot margin while attempting to overtake a person on a bike. I would also like to note that the fact that bicyclists have the same rights as a car also means that they have the same responsibility as a car. Cyclists must stop at stop signs and red lights, and should, generally stay to the right when there is room to share the lane.

Okay, I think the chinese food I just ate helped my nerves a little bit. I'm still sort of shaky though. All drivers have a responsibility which comes from being in control of a machine as large and powerful as a car, but bus drivers have a greater one, both for the safety of the people inside the bus and those outside of it because of the sheer size of the vehicle they're in charge of.

Fuck. I hate motorists in general, but that was just overwhelmingly scary.

    Fanfic read: TOO FUCKING MANY

Oh man I am going to be dead by the end of the week one way or another. It's either brain overload or alcohol poisoning and I'm not sure which yet, but I'm edging on brain overload. I have 3 midterms and 2 papers due this week and my 21st Birthday is tomorrow. Lame. (the schoolwork, not the birthday).

Send help. Cut off my internet connection. Oh man.

ps. I'm going to New York City for Spring break the week after this, anyone got bar/club/shopping/museum recommendations? We're staying in the Lower East Side if that helps.

eta: 1 essay accomplished (unless I reread it tomorrow and decide it's crap)! 1 more essay and ten million unavailable hours of studying to go.

Also, fess up, anonymous! Thank you so much for the paid time, It was about to run out, and you are so cool! Oh man, thank you :D <333333333333333333333333333333333

So the girl I was going to be living with? Decided yesterday that she really probably couldn't afford to move. Note: the day before this we had spent the entire day looking at 2 bedroom apartments. Note the 2nd: I have to be out of my house by the 1st of January.

    fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

So now I have to try to find people that I could actually live with on like, craigslist, because I'm completely screwed.

I hate moving and spent most of yesterday freaking out. omg.

    In the mean time: sesa!

    fuck.

I've run completely out of ideas for this stupid research paper. I have ten trillion sources and absolutely nothing interesting to say. OMG British people why does your country hate the European Union? I need more reasons!

Or possibly a larger font. Now there's an idea.

I have to drive all the way to SF just to drop this paper off tomorrow. All my classes were cancelled but my unreasonable!prof won't let us email her the paper in lieu of turning in a hardcopy. This sucks. My compromise with myself (ha! some compromise!) is that I might as well go shopping while I'm in the city. Haight-Ashbury: here I come. I really love that district. There's a Buffalo Exchange, and some other cool thrift shops. So at least I have that to look forward to. Also, I've promised myself time to watch the most recent episode of Desperate Housewives once I finish this paper. I'm really horribly addicted to that show. Eva Longoria is adorable and I covet her shoes. Also, I love that they're doing a plotline about spoiler ).

Also? GIP. I really felt that I needed a school related icon, some of you may get the reference, it's a fandom_wank related quote.

    life things

Woke up this morning at 7:30 to a sweltering room, a rainstorm outside, and my clock flashing 2:20am.

The power had gone out, I didn't have another clock anywhere and my phone was in my car so I had to turn my computer on to make sure I wasn't late for school. It turns out I woke up a half hour before my alarm was set to go off, sometimes I genuinely love my internal clock for saving me from power outages and alarms that wouldn't have gone off (most of the time I curse it for waking me up before I actually need to wake up.)

As for the sweltering hot bedroom: evidently my inept roommate turned on the heating without so much as mentioning it to anyone else in the house. And he turned the bloody thing on to 70º. So I had to get out of bed and turn it off. Also, it was making this bizarre high pitched whine, I don;t know if I should be scared that the thing will explode or what. It wasn't even that cold out last night, 50º maybe, not worth the heating bills.

Then, when I came home today, the same roommate informed me that the internet was down. He said he'd reset the modem a couple times to no effect. So I asked if he had called. His response was a blank look. Evidently, the fact that the dsl bill was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE PHONE did nothing to help him figure out who the fuck he should have called. The boy clearly has no idea how to do things on his own. I have no clue how he's managed to keep a job seeing as how he's completely incapable of independent thought. I really dislike him sometimes.

    fandom things:
