PotC!!!

omg. I have just come from watching Pirates of the Caribbean

I don't think it is spoilery to say that I liked it. a lot. I had expected it to be pretty silly and it turned out pretty good.

But to avoid lots of drama I will cut the rest.

I had gone into it expecting a lot of really cheesy bad acting, bad dialogue stuff, and while it had its fair share of giggle worthy lines, it was actually surprisingly good. Fisrt off: it actually had some semblance of a plot, which, for a movie named after a ride at Disneyland, was pretty damned cool. And the acting was good. But you guys already knew that since it's Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and all.

The main girl in the movie is Elizabeth, who is played by Kiera Knightly who was in Bend It Like Beckam a totally kickass movie about female soccer players. And according to the PotC website, she's only 18, which really suprised me. She was really good, even if she was stealing Orlando away from Johnny.

And Orlando, was really good. *sigh* I am such a fangirl. But yes, it was yet again an Orlando with swords movie. Which is just, so so kinky. And once again he proves that he is damned good with a sword too. AND he got to use two at once, it was a total Legolas fight scene. Very kickass. Okay and the end in the outfit with the hat? GAH. heissofrickinhot! I love Orlando Bloom, so much. how unexpected was that? Did you really think I could make it through an entire post without mentioning that little fact? But yeah, Orlando in that hat and a cape, with his hair all long and curly. Oh man I so have a new fetish. Musketeer style, oh yeah baby. However I will add that despite the hotness his character, was a bit dull, heroic but a bit dull, especially complared to Captain Jack Sparrow.

The captain, Johnny Depp's character, who looked ridiculous on the previews actually came across quite well I thought. I warmed up to him a lot during this movie. But the hair? still bothers me, why exactly did they feel the need to make him into a gypsy/reggae/pirate? But yeah, he had some badass fight scenes, and some pretty cool lines. And Johnny Depp definitely made his character a lot more interesting than he was probably written.

So yeah, the movie was good, and I'm gonna see it again, and supposedly there's something to watch after the credits so don't forget to stay for that. I couldn't stay cause we didn't wanna have to clean the theater (it was an employee showing). One thing to keep in mind though is that you've kinda gotta go into the movie in the mindset of, "this isn't a serious movie, I'm just gonna watch it and have fun". And bring some tissues to wipe up the drool.

I now want Orlando/Johnny slash, or some Jack Sparrow/Will Turner slash, or both. Go watch the movie and get to writing people!

Spoilers? I wasn't aware there was going to be a plot. ;) I'm so jealous of you! No telling when the movie will come out in Australia. I can't wait, though. Say, does Orlando get a new facial expression at all? ::eg::

sush, Orlando is a good actor, one of my actor friends told me so and he's even going to acting school. just like Orlando!!!

But yeah, it was good, and I am a teenie and I love Orlando and yeah. just. hot. you have to see it. In the end with the cape and the hat: so, so hot, just. yes. you must go.

Well now I have to go, even if it's just to see the slash potential :D

Slash potential is a perfectly good reason to see a movie!

Plus it's disney so you have to see it *prods you*

Damn you for convincing me to watch a new movie.

As Disney, does it have singing? Because that would rock.

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2003-07-09 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
um, no theres really no singing, but I think it might be better that way. I always hated the singing movies. Except for Mary Poppins, that was the only one I liked, but I sitll didn't like the singing much, not even then.

No no no. Being a musical is a plus, even if the music isn't brilliant (though Disney is consistently pretty good/passable). Why don't you like musicals?

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2003-07-09 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't like them. They're weird. No one sings in real life and burts out into choreaographed dance movements in real life, so what's the point? It bothers me.

No one fights skeleton pirates in real life either, so what's the point? It's nice, it sounds good and it allows a differnt method of communicating feelings/plot/etc in a production.

If they're handled wrong, you're right, they just hurt and detract from the story, but they can be done right. I'd point to Sondheim for this, because, yay, Sondheim, if you're looking for a "musical" style, with unnessecary music that flows. Chicago does the "why?" part well with the over-the-top fantastical style to it's numbers that fit in the story. And of course, there's the realistic musical, like Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Though in the end, I think it's a matter of taste, I believe (based entirely on personal experience) that if you give the really good ones (SWEENY TODD!) a chance you can come to appreciate them (extra long summary of above sentence: Look, I'm not trying to convert you, but I am; watch Sweeny Todd, the PBS recording of the Broadway production with Angela Lansbury which should be at Blockbuster or Holywood Video).

The movie is SO slashy non-serious fun. It's great. I loved Orlando's exceptionally large feather in his hat at the end, and when he was stuck while the ship was sinking, I kept saying "Save me, Jack! I'll never let go, Jack!" to no avail.

The thing at the end is alright. It's not exceptionally long, but it is kind of cool, and the music makes the credits worth it to sit through. See the end thing once.

The movie is SO slashy non-serious fun.

I completely agree. That is exactly why I loved it. Everyone needs slashy non-serious fun movies :D

I'm dragging a friend to see it a little later so I'll definitely stay to watch the end thing, thank for the tip!

btw. I added you to my friendslist, hope you don't mind.
