playing catch up with media and stuff

First off some music:

Artist: MIA
Album: Arular
Genre: Hip/Hop, with heavy electro, and international leanings
Recommended Song: Hombre
Download: full album

Some things you might want to know about M.I.A.: She was born in Sri Lanka and raised in London. Her dad was a Tamil Freedom fighter and her songs are heavily influenced by both her political background and ethnic identity. She's innovative and her sound is really hard to compare to anyone else's. Um. Lots of hipsters love her. But since I'd probably call myself a hipster if pressed, I don't think that's a bad thing.

Now: some other media:
[ Lance talking about a charity auction for hurrcane relief ] -- mpg, 30mb from [livejournal.com profile] pacific_gravity
[ The Brokeback Mountain trailer as aired on CNN ] -- wmv, 6.5mb from [livejournal.com profile] hackthis? I think?
Enjoy!

THANK you for pointing me in the direction of the Brokeback Mountain trailer! Holy shit. I make it a point to not see movies I suspect will make me cry, and yet I am so looking forward to this movie. The reviews coming out of Venice and Telluride are fantastic, too. And the trailer, omfg. Gyah. Cannot wait to see this!

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
just in case the trailer link wasn't working before, it is now. And if it was working before, well, hopefully it's still working now and I'm just crazy.

I just know I'm going to be bawling in the theater but I can't wait.

*jaw drops*

*eyes blink all slow*

Dude... WHERE? That's my Home town. And because I've had some tequila tonight and read lots of horrible hurricane stories it's making me misty eyed that you are so close. *drifts* Did you post pictures of your apt and view of the hills outside your window a little while back?

Can we get together for coffee/food? Where in the City are you? I grew up in the outer Sunset and lived in the upper Haight for a stretch...

I'd totally be down for that. I'm living in the Sunset disctrict right by SF State, over in park merced. those pictures are here. I had no idea you were in the bay area too, how funny.

Sweet! Typically I'm off Thursdays and Fridays, but have a 12-5 class on Fridays. We could also get together when I'm in Colma for training - supposedly in the next couple of weeks. Call me and we'll figure something out.

Do you have plans for Serenty, yet?

[identity profile] justabi.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
*pouts* It says I don't have permission and it sounds so cool!

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming that you tried to just click on the llink and go that message, try right clicking on the link and choosing save as or save link target as. That should work. Or I could be doing that thing with assumptions and asses, so let me know if it still doesn't work.

[identity profile] justabi.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that didn't work. But don't worry about it.

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Are you using firefox? Because a couple other people have mentioned issues with firefox in particular. You could try internet explorer if you aren't already using it.

[identity profile] fashes.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
I rezipped the album and got it to [livejournal.com profile] justabi, but I just noticed that I couldn't extract track 1 from your zip due to "corruption." Perhaps it's just because I have windows and you have OSX. *g* *kicks windoze in the shins* If you upload track one somewhere I can upload the whole zip from a windows platform tomorrow.

[identity profile] theantimodel.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's the first song hopefully this one won't be corrupted?

[identity profile] fashes.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! That totally works! I'm uploading a windows friendly zip to yousendit. I'll post it tomorrow or you can post it since I made you the recipient.

[livejournal.com profile] fashes uploaded a zip file of MIA's album to yousend it. Here's the link if you're still interested.
