Except - it didn't have any of the psychological/political overtones of the first two.
You really think? To me, the problem was that it had too many political overtones, and it kept mixing its metaphors to the point where it just got confused. Being a mutant is like being gay: you are who you are, it's an inherent part of you and you shouldn't feel ashamed of it! Being a mutant is like being pregant: it's your choice to control your body, and nobody should stop you! Being a mutant is like being from the Middle East: the public will hate you along with the terrorists who look like you! Which leads to conclusions like: it's more effective to bomb abortion clinics than to protest them! And if you get an abortion, your boyfriend will be repulsed by you!
But yeah. Lots of little moments of fan service and cuteness, some fun action, but overall a mess, with a massive amount of out-of-characterness.
