= So the season finale of SGA... )

= Bush's State of the Union address didn't fail to piss me off again this year. The man clearly doesn't live in the same world as the rest of the country what with the healthcare's doing great! the economy's doing great! american workers can't be stopped! let's promote science and math education without making education any more affordable! abstinence only education is working great! bullshit. Also? The smirking really, really annoys me. The upside to all of this was that Stephen Colbert and John Stewart got to mock the shit out of Bush in funny and inventive ways. John Stewart is my hero. He really, really is.

= Also? Stargate (the movie) was an answer on Jeopardy tonight and I swear to god I'm getting better are that game every time I watch. It's really quite gratifying.

= My class on Reality and the New Physics seems like it's going to be a pretty awesome class. We're reading a bunch of interesting sounding books and my Professor for it is an ex-research physicist out of Stanford's Linear Accelerator Center. The vote is still out on my Mexican-US Politics class. I'm afraid I don't know much of anything about Mexican history and I don't speak a word of Spanish so I'm worried I'll be out of my depth for that class. I'm still on track to graduate in May though so that's pretty damned exciting *g*

Veronica Mars last night slayed me! God that show is good. It's so nice to watch a show and just be happy with it, no exceptions, no doubts.

And speaking of tv shows I'm loving, how about Kitchen Confidential? Will Tippen! And Xander! And a hot british guy (who has evidently been trained at both RADA and Oxford)! All on tv together every week! I only wish it was an hour show and not a half hour. Plus, there's already fic. You should all go check out [livejournal.com profile] greg_the_fish for stories by the always fabulous [livejournal.com profile] hackthis, [livejournal.com profile] nifra_idril, and [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock.

Can I just say that I love New Zealand? Some wonderful tv station over there has been airing the unaired episodes of Eyes. Last week we got 1x06 and 1x07 hit torrents yesterday, so here's that as well.

Someone bought me 2 months of paid time and lj didn't send me an email so I have no idea who it was or even if you said who it was, but thank you! I really appreciate the gift.

cali: (and I've got glasses to prove it)
Things I am excited about:

  • I have tickets for Modest Mouse/The Killers/The Arcade Fire in October! What a kickass lineup! I wish the venue was smaller (they're playing the shoreline) but it'll totally be worth it.

  • I'm working at the infoshop today and a guy came in and donated an iBook! So awesome.

  • I signed up for my classes last week. What I'm taking:
Urban Politics and Community Power - MW 10:10-11:50
Ethnicity and Nationalism - MW 12:20-2:00
Political Theory of Sexuality - TTh 12:20-2:00
Judicial Power and Public Policy - TTh 2:10-3:50
I've taken classes from both of my Tuesday/Thursday professors before, so that should be a really good day.

  • Which leads me to a question, those of you who have applied to grad schools: would it be better for me to get a letter of recommendation from a professor who knows me pretty well but whose class I only got a B+ in, or should I go with a teacher who knows me less well but whose class I got an A in instead?

  • I'm taking 16 units this semester and when I'm done I'll only need 3.5 more units to graduate. In fact, I'm done with my Political Science major requirements this semester. I'm going to join the like, 7 percent of all UC and CSU students to graduate in 4 years! Go me!

Things I am significantly more ambivalent about:

  • I have to apply for law schools this fall. More eek! Letters of recommendation! stress! school choices! money!

  • I'm signed up to take the LSAT on October 1st. I need to study! Eeek!

  • I burned my tongue on some french fries last night but didn't feel it due to the beer I'd been drinking only to wake up this morning with a burnt tongue and no idea why. Ugh.

Things which do not fit into those categories:

  • I've been watching a lot of Cash in the Attic lately and I've been struck with an overwhelming desire for Cash in the Attic slash. Alistair Appleton is totally adorable with his Big Scarves and his Bad Puns and his fey glances at Paul and Jonty. Alistair/Jonty all the way!

Well it looks like btefnet has gone down due to the MPAA suing them. This is incredibly suckass in so many, many ways. It was easily the best of the bittorrent sites. In the meantime I'm linking to as many as I can here so I'll have some hope of being able to download the last shows of the season. So far I've got:

    Torrent Spy
    Unreal Torrents
    MiniNova
    The Pirate Bay
    My Bittorrent
    RokaNova
    Torrent Reactor
    IsoHunt
    Seedler

    And Orb's Torrent Site Status
    The Calendar for TV

    Anyone else got any?

I will wait for the torrent. I will wait for the torrent. I will wait for the torrent. I will wait for the torrent. I will wait for the torrent. I will wait for the torrent. Eyes, Serenity trailer, Veronica Mars drabble

So I think the test run for Eyes went okay, so here's the next episode. Don't forget that the new episode (1x05) will be airing tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 10pm after Alias. Also, I got a chance to see the last episode when it aired so I don't have it on my computer. It's still being seeded at btefnet though, so try there.

As you all know by now, I'm sure, the trailer for Serenity has come out today. It looks fucking awesome. I love that Joss finally had a budget big enough to fully realise the special effects he envisioned. Also, I want to take this opportunity to remind you all that not only did I get to see Joss, Nathan, Adam, and Summer at wondercon in February, I've also I seen a longer clip of the movie than the rest of you. In the immortal words of Nocturne Alley's [livejournal.com profile] erniemacmillan: In your fish motherfuckers!

I wrote a Veronica Mars drabble today for [livejournal.com profile] tuesday100 the new Veronica Mars weekly drabble challenge community.

    Dodge, hell out of
Veronica has never been so scared as the night she finds her mom again. The prank phone calls, seeing her at the bar-drunker than she's ever seen her mom before-and the lingering fear that she might not actually stay at the clinic. Veronica doesn't mind about her college fund, but driving back into Neptune she wonders if her life will ever be the same after a night like this.

She might never have the opportunity to leave now, not without a miraculous income bracket jump. But if it brings her mom back, she knows it'll be worth it.
ps. 1/3 papers due this week completed! Go me!

You know what sucks? Going through 4 and a half gigabytes of bandwidth when only two people comment to tell me they've downloaded something. That sucks. And you know, I'm not the queen of the universe and I can't command people to comment, and I made the entry public so blah blah blah it's all my fault I shouldn't expect it but DUDE. How hard is it to click a few buttons and type a few words out? Not very! Hmph.

    Lost thoughts )

    and West Wing thoughts )

In non-tv related news: I have a friend who has been studying in South America since last August, she's been in Ecuador but school just finished so she recently began traveling. This is an email she sent me a few days ago from Chile.
I thought you all would appreciate this....so I went to lunch today and the restaurant had menus in spanish with english translations underneath. one of the items was papas fritas, or french fries. But in spanish, there are two meanings for the word papa--la papa means potato, and el papa means the pope (you may already know this). Anyway, underneath papas fritas it was written, fried popes, one dollar. There were also steamed popes and mashed popes, should you prefer those. I myself am vegetarian, and so passed on the popes, cooked any sort of way :)
    Hee!

    Buffy Season 6 discussion

I've been watching Season 6 of Buffy over the last few days. I know a lot of people don't like the 6th and 7th seasons but I do. the season aired what, 3 years ago? Do I still need to spoiler cut this stuff? )

On a non-Buffy related note? I HATE my roommate right now. I cannot possibly win with him. He's pissed at me for not having time to ride my bike, he's pissed at me for not passing along a phone message the "right way". I am *so tired* of having to deal with his immature bullshit. The only time he deigns to speak to me anymore is when he's asking me for bill money or telling me what new way I've fucked up. *steams* I have less than a month left, I can ignore it for that much longer. Because I know the second I bring it up it'll turn into an even bigger thing and I just don't want to deal with it. It does suck though, not being able to be in the same room as him because of all this.
