I find myself in the weird position of feeling like I have one foot in the proverbial fandom door and one out. I think it's been about a month and a half since I last posted and I almost feel like I have too much to say now that it's been so long. My life has been incredibly hectic and over the past month and a half I've moved, changed jobs twice, and am thinking about moving again. I wish I could say that all of the business has been good and productive, but I don't really think it has.

I made arrangements, before my trip to Europe, to move in with a friend of mine. He is recently divorced and has two kids who would be there part time. Unfortunately, when I returned, him and his two part time kids turned into him, his two kids, his manipulative girlfriend and her horrid, obnoxious, demon spawn of a child. If they were out of the picture, I think the roommate situation would be perfectly fine, but it's not and I've only been here for a month.

The brighter side of my life right now is my new job. I actually have a real, full time, adult job with benefits and a retirement fund and all sorts of crazy stuff. I'm the event planner at a really fantastic local non-profit with an annual operating budget of over 2.5 million dollars (!!!) I still can't believe they hired me. It's not my long time career goal but it is pretty much my pre-grad school dream job and it's going to look fabulous on any resumé.

In an effort to feel a little more involved with fandom, I'd like to invite all of you to give me your contact info so I can send you holiday cards. I've been wonderfully domestic of late, with lots of baking, cooking, and sewing projects and while I doubt I'll make my own cards from scratch this year, I do have some pretty awesome cards to send out and I'd love to share.

Oh hey, and, in completely random news, yesterday I posed naked for a photographer friend who is making a book of photos of naked dead zombies. His girlfriend did the makeup and I laid in a muddy drainage ditch under an old wooden bridge for an hour while they covered me in fake blood and dirt and took crime scene style photos. It was the awesomest.

  • I'd like to add in a (semi) regular reminder to new and old friends that I have a downloads filter (somewhat inactive of late) and if you'd like to be on it please leave a comment over here in this entry.

  • I've been really, really bored with my own music lately, too. Things I have a hankering for: oh god, anything! Seriously, anything, what are you guys listening to on repeat all the time right now? I'm just not really into anything I've got already. Send me stuff!

  • I love John Stewart a whole bunch. He takes on Reagan's Secretary for Education and talks about the gay marriage debate. "Divorce is not caused because 50% of all marriages end in gayness" omg. *hearts*

  • I have been putting off on posting about this because none of the details are very certain, but they're getting more solid now, so. Attention friends in England: it looks like I will be coming for a visit in September/October. One of my friends is planning a two month trip around Europe and asked me to come with. As it stands now I'll be flying into Paris sometime on September 6th and traveling around with her until the 23rd when her boyfriend comes to visit. From there I'm on my own until October 11th. I'm planning on spending a week or so in Ireland with my family but I also want to hit up England as well. The dates would be sometime between September 23rd and October 11th. I'd love to see you guys if possible, so if any of you will be around, and would, perhaps be interested in hosting me for a day or two, do let me know. Alternatively, if you just want to see me and can't put me up, that's fine too!

In there interests of trying to figure out whether I should go to Ireland first or second, here's a poll:

uh, is it poll day or something?

I keep forgetting to mention this but a while ago I posted about looking into breast reduction surgery and I never posted about it again but I ended up deciding to go for it. I'm going to be having surgery on June 22. I've had the date scheduled for months and all the waiting has been driving me nuts so I'm pretty excited that it's coming up a lot sooner now. The recovery's probably going to mean at least a week at home in bed feeling like crap so I'm thinking hey! time to get addicted to more tv, right? So keeping in mind that I already watch: Veronica Mars, Supernatural, House, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica:

And now, back to finishing my second to last homework assignment of my college undergrad career because I'm graduating in one week dude. My grandma's even coming out for it. w00t.

    a poll about grammar

Last week my teacher who makes me want to punch him went off on a rant about how he cannot stand that students nowadays only use one space after a period and not two. He said it will, like, actually ruin his night when he's reading papers and was quite hysterical in his hatred for the trend. While I insist on using two spaces after my periods, I don't-as he went on at length about-do it so that my sentences can have a chance to breathe and settle into my reader's consciousness. But it did get me thinking about various grammar rules. Hence, a poll!

So it sounds like there's some support for the idea of a fan vidder archive. I'm at least committed to the idea enough to buy the domain name and since I like shoving decisions onto other peoples backs here's a poll on url choices.

So it's december and I've been busy being a complete slacker at school and failing to finish any of my law school applications and generally just having a pretty thorough anxiety induced breakdown. Uh. I'm pretty sure it's all due to some sort of passive-aggressive I-don't-want-to-be-in-school-anymore type feelings my subconscious is pretty much done tamping down on.

Things that are currently making me happy:

Lot's and lots of Stargate Atlantis fic.

The fact that I only have 5 things on my christmas list. I honestly couldn't think of a single thing I wanted besides a couple dvd box sets, a book, and a sewing machine (although I might not be needing that since my apartment's lease is up at the end of the month and I might have to move back in with the parents.)

Holiday Cards! I have no clue if I'll get around to doing them but give me your address and find out!

    [Poll #625487]

And getting more into the holiday spirit here's some of my favorite christmas music, mostly from the Vienna Boys Choir:
    1. [ VBC - What Child is This ]
    2. [ VBC - Joy to the World ]
    3. [ VBC - The First Noel ]
    4. [ VBC - In Dulci Jubilo ]
    5. [ VBC - Angels We Have Heard on High ]
    6. [ VBC - O Holy Night ]
    7. [ VBC - Pachelbel's Canon ]
    8. [ VBC - Carol of the Bells ]
    9. [ Snow Patrol - When I Get Home for Christmas ]

And while they have nothing to do with christmas Reindeer Section is very, very cool:
    10. [ Reindeer Section - You Are My Joy ] seriously, the most romantic song ever.
    11. [ Reindeer Section - Cartwheels ]
    12. [ Reindeer Section - Strike Me Down ]

Lastly, for good measure (because I haven't been posting much at all lately) that ten things about me meme )

    PS.

PS. I'm thinking about changing my lj username to [livejournal.com profile] mutinous, would that be weird/obnoxious/annoying/hard to get used to? Should I do it? Should I not? Let's take a poll.

So everyone's excited about fandom stuff this weekend and I'm sure at least half of you are avoiding lj for Harry Potter related reasons. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I haven't even preordered the book. I'm probably going to go pick up a copy tonight, but only if I don't end up being horribly busy. I'm supposed to go see Desert City Soundtrack and The Rum Diary tonight (yay, emo?) Also setting up for the artshow I'm putting on tomorrow night.

All of the NSYNC sightings at CFTC are making me horribly jealous. I would love to be there squeeing along side everyone. I'm definitely settling for squeeing in front of my computer instead. I added Chris to my myspace page and he added me back. It's sorta weird, but kinda cool too.

I've been reading a weird amount of Star Wars fanfic lately. Of the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan variety. I like the AU possibilities for the Star Wars universe. But wtf is up with all the slave stories? unwanted/unequal/forced sex? really not my thing. Also I just started a book one of my friend's lent me called Miss Misery it's by a new author named Andy Greenwald. It's an advanced reader copy (my friend works in a bookstore) of a novel about New York City, hipsters, emo, and blogging (specifically lj). My friend liked it and lent it to me last night. I picked it up an hour or two ago and I'm already at 150 pages. I'll probably try to finish it before the new Harry Potter. A reveiwer described it as an "emo fight club" and you know what? It sort of is. The writing is engaging and modern without being overly pretentious and it's got that Chuck Palahniuk sort of endginess to it. I think it's going to be published next January, I should remember to remind y'all about it then, eh?

Here's the third episode of Ewan McGregor's trip around the world.
    [ Ewan McGregor - The Long Way Round - Episode 3 ] -- avi, 350mb
Also, do any of you have avi version of episodes 1-3 and 5-8 of this season's Queer As Folk? I've got 4 and 9-13 but I'm missing the rest :(

Lastly: in regard to my last, drunken post, I am still terribly prod of my self for getting this boy's number. I have actually known him, in a vague sense, since we were little. I swam on the same swimm team as him. And then in High School he was two (or three) years older and significantly cooler than I was as a lowly freshmen (as in this guy was like, the guy everyone had a crush on) but he still said hi to me when we saw each other. And he's back from college or something now, and is going to be going to grad school. And yeah, this is way boring so long story short: I definitely wanna make out with him.

Okay, really the last thing (sorry if you're all tired of this meme, but I'm really curious):

    tags, laziness, recs poll

There's something about switching styles that's a bit like moving into a new house. Everything has to be just right, and you spend hours figuring out where to put things. I've been resisting s2 styles since their implementation, mostly because I had everything organized just right under my s1 style. But the tags broke me. They're were just too useful to ignore. So. new style. check it out: [livejournal.com profile] theantimodel.

I'm using flexible squares with a whole lot of customizations. I recommend checking out [livejournal.com profile] s2flexisquares if you're thinking about switching, there are a lot of helpful add ons detailed there. Also, [livejournal.com profile] wistfuljane is a font of knowledge and helpfulness. Check out her post on tags. So far I've got 2005 fully tagged. It took a while, I'm not exactly looking forward to finishing the job, but it will do my OCD brain good to have a greater level of organization. For your reference: you can check out all of my tags on my journal's frontpage. I've got links to all the media I've shared by fandom as well as recs and polls and whatnot. So. If you ever see anything listed under media that you missed, feel free to ask me to reupload it.

Other things: If you have a mac and you aren't using xjournal I think you're missing out. The new version supports tags, very cool!

I really meant to go to critical mass tonight. It would have been cool, but I lost track of time doing all the lj configuration. I kinda suck. Especially since my out of town friends actually came down for the ride. Clearly, they are more dedicated than I.

I have a flickr account. If any of you are interested. I usually post real-life pictures and stuff there. I posted pics of last month's critical mass over there in case any of you are interested.

I have a fic recs journal ([livejournal.com profile] anti_recs) and hmmm, I think I started it because I didn't want to spam my flist with random posts of names and links, but lately I've been making much more traditional recs posts over there. And for sake of organization (having all my recs separated into one easy to find place) I'm going to keep posting them but I think I'm going to start posting them here too.
