Obligatory warning for y'all who don't like justin: don't read the post cause I talk about him.
The Club: The Coronet at Elephant and Castle.
Evidently the place used to be a cinema and is still being renovated. Into a club. I think. They sold 2200 tickets, which was I think, too many for the venue. It was a pretty substantial room, especially since it had a balcony, but the dance floor was packed way too tight. And the sound system was shite. It wasn't nearly loud enough, so while we could hear Justin, it definitely wasn't up to usual standards for shows. I didn't even need ear plugs. And I was only a few feet from the speakers. And at 8 quid for a weak double vodka and red bull I was just not impressed with the place.
The Show:
The doors opened at 11. There was a DJ playing generic rap, with a heavy emphasis on anything The Neptunes have ever produced, figures. The DJ was on for almost 2 hours. Justin didn't even get on stage until 12:55, and I think if he'd waited any longer there would have been a riot.
Jup started out the evening in that Harley Davidson shirt, with sort of maroonish pants and a black baseball hat. He looked good, not too tired or anything, just amped to be on stage. He was definitely feeding off the crowd. He opened with Cry Me a River, did the whole "Bitch why don't you cry for me" thing, complete with middle fingers up. Everyone loved that.
He moved on to the generic, "I love you London" thing. "Y'all always make me feel welcome" is what I think he said. Then he said that we'd all come to have a "fuckin good time", and he was gonna move onto the next song. He moved over to the keyboards to play "Senorita". The crowd was lovin it, and Justin was lookin like he was having a good time.
The order of things gets a little fuzzy here. He definitely played "Like I love You" and "Take It From Here", at some point he introduced everyone on stage, to the McCheezy "I'm Lovin' It". Then he talked about how sometimes you're dating a girl and then she goes crazy. "Not crazy like 'oh I like it when she does that' but crazy like 'really fuckin crazy' " (said with little cuckoo hand motions). Then he sang "Last Night". Which is a very angry song when he does it live. He was rockin out on this one. Very, very cool. He also sang "Take it From Here", and then he closed with a very cool version of "Rock Your Body".
I thought it was a really good show, and Justin does a kick ass live show. I'm pretty sure that seeing him in a small club, where everyone was over 18 is the way to go. But I was a bit disappointed. I really would have expected more than an hour and fifteen minute show for the 45 pounds I paid (that's roughly $75), an encore would have been cool. But I've gotta admire the fact that he was willing to play two shows in one night, and it was pretty fucking late by the time the show ended, so yeah, overall Justin put on a good show, but I think the choice of venue was unfortunate, and the crowd was a bit creepy, since some people weren't even dancing, even though they were on a dance floor, in a club.
