So I went ahead and bought fanvids.org because it won the poll pretty much hands down. And I've been thinking about how in the hell a person with basically no major coding experience could start up a project like this and I think I've found a way to do it. Basically, I wouldn't code anything at all. I was thinking about the way [livejournal.com profile] footage_project is organized, with just plain old indexes of files on the site and livejournal posts to help people figure out what's there. So I started thinking, huh what if the impetus was on the vidders themselves? What about creating a bunch of ftp logins and letting vidders upload their vids into their own files on the site?

Anyway I created a community for this all: [livejournal.com profile] fanvids_archive and I posted a bunch of my basic ideas so I'd love more input from people. At this point I'd really love to see it happen and I think it's workable but the downside is it will be expensive and I don't think I'll be able to foot the bill for it.
