An Orange County (Southern California) school district is refusing to abide by the 1999 California law requiring schools to protect students from discrimination based on sexual orientation or perceived gender. They've refused to incorporate the rule into their education code, saying the measure is immoral and promotes transsexuality.

What utter bullshit. The full article is here. I went to the most liberal high school in my school district in Northern California and I saw people getting harassed for being gay all the fucking time. I cannot even imagine what it's like for kids in conservative towns. They'd goddamned well better refuse to give funding to that district. Not only are they refusing to obey the law, they're actively encouraging harassment and violence by saying that they don't give a shit what happens to non-heterosexual kids.

I know a kid from my town who was forced to drop out of school because he was getting attacked by other kids he went to school with and the administration told him that we was "asking for it" by wearing an upside down flag and being open about being gay.

I'm off to go pass out condoms.
