mmmm cookies

cali: (david bowie makes everything better)
I made over 150 christmas cookies today. All of them spiced spritz cookies (you know the kind that you put in a cookie gun or press or whatever you want to call it.) Next on the list: lemon sugar cookies, plain sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, chocolate covered cherries, regular russian tea cakes, and orange-coconut tea cakes, and unspiced spritz cookies. This is going to be a long week.

My mom was looking through her recipe book and found a recipe she had cut out of the San Francisco chronicle the day I was born. She went into labor around 8 in the morning and waited around the hospital until she could have a cesarean around 1. She's never made the recipe (some variation of gingerbread.) What I'm wondering though is when on earth she had time to you know, read the newspaper and rip out a recipe while she was in labor. wtf. (for the record she doesn't remember either.)

[livejournal.com profile] ashlle1 was asking about downloading Stargate SG-1 the other day and I ended up uploading the pilot episode and another of my favorite eps from the first season. I've only just started watching SG-1 (damn you SGA and your sinkhole tendencies!) so I have a lot to catch up on. I don't know if any of you guys are thinking about getting into it but you can find some pretty solid torrents of each season in 80mb/episode packets over here. Here are the two episodes I shared with [livejournal.com profile] ashlle1 in case anyone else wants them:
[ Stargate SG1 - 101 - Children Of The Gods ] -- avi, 156mb - double episode

[ Stargate SG1 - 118 - Tin Man ] -- avi, 80mb
Completely unrelated to the Stargate fandom. The other day I read a Harry/Draco post-Half Blood Prince story called Sweet by [livejournal.com profile] lydiabennet and it left me craving new Harry Potter stories. Surely there have been some decent length post HBP stories written by now, Harry/Draco or Harry/Snape, any recs?

I'm tempted by SG-1 but there are a lot of episodes to catch up on.

Here are some HP recs that I haven't added to my site yet:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/merry_smutmas/85674.html? Boxing Day by ??? Harry/Draco. After the war is won and the world is made anew, Harry Potter finds he doesn't understand this one nearly as well as the old. Brilliantly done.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/merry_smutmas/88710.html? The Fourth Year by ??? Harry/Snape. “The days were hard enough to pass with the aid of chores. He could clean. He could cook. He could pretend that he was somehow still vital to some future plan. His life would never be his own, granted, but there was a possibility he could still contribute. Until then, he would maintain. He would master the (sadly) domestic spheres available to him. He would wait. He would scrub. He would stew.” Post HBP. Long, plotty, lovely.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/merry_smutmas/96463.html Sea Change by ??? Ron/Draco. A perfectly paced, beautifully written post HBP fic. I love stories that let me like Draco.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/theloveboat/50964.html Castaways by Cruisedirector Harry, Snape. Harry finds his onetime teacher and present colleague performing an unfamiliar ritual. It's a unique look at penance and the search for forgiveness.

I've got the entire first five or so seasons in ASF format. Albeit, they're crap quality (about 20 meg), but they're watchable.

Yeah I've downloaded the first 4 seasons. Part of me is afraid to watch past that because I really don't want Daniel to die *g* I'm thinking I'll probably rent at least season 5. The crap quality of even the 80mb versions is kinda getting to me.

I'm just catching up on SG1 myself and I'm so in love with it, it hurts. And the pilot! I was just itching to see the pilot again too, and while I'm thisclose to buying all 8 seasons, I need to wait until after the holidays, so this is perfect. And Tin Man! LOVE.

Omg SG1 is just as addictive as I had feared. I'm totally in love with Jack O'Neill. Just--totally in love with him. (Especially in the dress blues *melt*)

I'm pretty sure I'm getting SGA season 1 for christmas. I'd love to see the SG1 episodes in dvd quality. I'm at least going to have to rent them again if not trawl ebay for the complete seasons.

There's this one person who keeps selling the first 7 seasons of SG1 for about 120-130 bucks, total. That's a steal! I just hope he has another set when I can afford it.

And I love Jack a lot, but my heart is devoted to Daniel. GAH. So this works out well! We won't have to fight over them! lol

Want to share a cookie recipe with me? I don't care which one, they all sound really good and I'm dying to make some myself!

Well, what else are you supposed to do when you're in labor? I walked around and kinda whimpered, read books, talked to my folks and husband. it's boring.

Heh. I totally have no idea what it would even be like, and I hope to god I don't ever find out. You are a much braver woman than I. (nine months of hormone induced torture seems really overwhelming!)

Pregnancy is not that horrible, it's a pain but not like nine months of cramps or anything.

However, the fact that your life is not your own for at least ten years, and even then, you're still responsible for food, clothes, getting them to school, dealing with grades and bullies and heartbreak... That's the hard part.

Yes there's definitely that too. I don't even want to get a cat because I'm not sure I could responsibly make a 10-20 year investment like that right now *g*

Wow and your mum and cookie recipe story.

I've just got back into SG1 myself. A lot of people are doing that. The thing is, it was the SGA people that restart the Jack O'Neil love. Oh RDA, how I wish you'd come back.

I fear the time when things change. I know I have five solid seasons before Daniel leaves for a year, and then two years before Jack leaves after that. But, but, but, I want them to stay together forever! *wails* I haven't even seen the new episodes with Ben Browder, but there's no way it can be as good. No Way.

I know! I'm really going to have to psyche myself up for watching past season 5 because I just don't want SG-1 to change. It's not right!

I've watched the first ten episodes of S9. You're right. It sucks. Especially since they made the Claudia Black's character to be so annoying. May be those who love Farscape thought differently. Me? I hate Vala. And the replacement for Doc Fraiser is so not working for me. I want my Napoleonic Powermonger back. Some are calling SG-1 Fargate.

Michael Shanks' Daniel was never far even when he ascended. O'Neil on the other hand...

Ya know, for kicks, I downloaded episode 3 of season 9 - it was just a random selection from the torrents - just to get an idea of what things were like. I'm still back in glorious season 3 and I didn't want to upset the flow of continuity too much but I couldn't stop myself. Daniel was great, and so was Teal'c, but I missed Sam (I understand Amanda was off having a baby, so I can understand that) and I missed Jack, obviously. But Jack showed up at the end of the episode and it was a really nice surprise. Bah. I hate change.

Jack showed up in 903? I don't think I've seen that one. I've seen the one where he showed up in Colonel whoever's hospital room and later popped into Daniel's office.

I'm pretty sure it was 903, at least that's how I downloaded it. I didn't really watch the whole episode because I didn't want to be too spoiled, but I was just too curious not to watch a few minutes here and there and then Jack came up at the end of the episode in Daniel's office - maybe it's the same one? It's where Daniel and that chick are stuck somewhere in their minds about to be burned at the stake? LOL I guess I'll figure it out eventually.

RDA is a totally awesome O'Neill. I love the way he plays him. SG-1 is totally cracktastic but I really love it a lot. And RDA's dry humor just works for me.

RDA is unbelievably endearing as O'Neil. That's one L by the way. :-)

There's apparently an in-joke about that. In one of the episodes, they made a mention of a Colonel O'Neill (with two Ls) that didn't have much of a sense of humor. Obviously a reference to Kurt Russell's interpretation of the character. Leading some fans to conclude that RDA's O'Neil and Russell's O'Neill are two separate characters.

I'm pretty sure you've got that backward actually. Season 5's 2001 was just on tv the other day and Jack had a couple of lines about how his name had two L's and not one.
