It all started with popslash. And thus began my trip to
So about four or five years ago I got really into *NSYNC fan fic. i read all the requisites: Fiction Lynn, Crazy1, MC. But the very first authors I read were story girl and fly girl, back ii\n the day, when they were still on an angelfire site or some shit, and they wrote loooong het fics. Through them I read Lady, back when she had a different name and also wrote het. And then I stumbled upon nsyncgrrrl, Helen, Wax, Julad, Calico, and the rest. And I was absolutely blown away at the mass amount of talent that the fandom has. There are just a lot of extremely talented popslasher out there. And after reading their fics, there was just no way that i could go back.
And so my descent began, and for years all I read was tons and tons of *NSYNC slash, and slowly i started reading the crossovers, y'know the ones with that other boyband in them too. But I never really got immersed in the backstreet fandom, I mostly stick to crossovers and such, especially JC/Nick and JuNick. And then i read Helen's HP Draco/Ron story, and then the HP fandom hit me like a ton of bricks. So i read Rhysenn, Shallott, Phatgirl, and every other H/D fic I could get my hands on. But I put off on reading Cassie's trilogy. I couldn't bring myself to read het. And I fing it funny that I am so completely squicked by het fic, what with me being a heterosexual girl and all, but i just can't stand reading it.
So then i had two major fandoms on my hands, until last november I discovered Lord of the Rings and soon I devoured what I am certain was something like 97% of the Aragorn/Legolas stories out there. Most were crap, but man do i ever like the pairing. but before I read the Tolkein stuff I read the RPS, and my god, Viggo/Orlando.... is. hot. Calico in particular, Blood Oranges is just amazing.
So by this time I was feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to read three fandoms and deal with RL. But i managed to find the time to read X-Men, and I must admit I'm a bit dissapointed in the quality of the fic in this fandom. I really like Wolverine/Cyclops (or if you prefer Logan/Scott), but i've only found a few fics that really capture the exciting aspects of this pairing (the anger, control issues, and alpha-male syndrome that both of these two have, and also their unique ability to understand each other).
And finally, about a week ago, I realized that one of the things I love about the American Idol show- the flirty relationship between Ryan and Clay, and between Ryan and Simon- are perfect for fiction. And thus I discovered American Idol slash, a very small fandom, but a strangely addicting one.
But one thing that I have been realizing lately is my propensity to be a complete pairing whore. Popslash is the only fandom in which i don't have a real preference in pairings. i read them ALL. Especially the stuff written by my favorite and trusted authors. I'll also read any and all crossovers I can find. I mean honestly, who would have guessed that JC/David Bowie could be such an amazing pair? but in the other fandoms? I am not as open. And I'm very untrusting, so if one of my favorite authors has written something with a different pairing, I'll read it , but only if it's someone i trust, and I'm always quite skeptical. Take for example LOTR: I have never read a single Frodo/Sam, Merry/Pippin, or Legolas/Gimli. In fact I've only read one fic that wasn't Aragorn/legoals, instead it was Aragorn/Legolas/Haldir my my, I certainly am branching out. And HP? The Draco Trilogy by Cassie is the only fic I've read that isn't Harry/Draco (with the exception of the first fic ever, as previously mentioned).
In conculsion: I am a pairing whore, and a slave to my OTP's. This is something I should maybe work on. In fact, I do plan to read Rhysenn's new Pyro/Iceman fic. it sounds interesting.

OK, so I have the habit of going back to the very first entry of my friends and kinda see what they were thinking when they first started the LJgame. LOL. Yeah, I know. I'm weird.
ANYWAY. LADY!! As in Elaine, right? I love that girl soooo much. If I name my absolute favourite nfic writer, Elaine's name would be the first out of my mouth. I even brought her two books (excellent, by the way. I've read Vinciguerra many, many times).
Sorry. Just wanted to squee with the Lady love. Most people don't know about her.
You can still access her old page. The Wayback Machine has the whole thing archived. It's not working right now. But check back in a couple of day. Type in her old webpage (http://world.stoprobbers.org) and it should pull up a couple of indexed pages.
OK. Done now. LOL.
