Help?

cali: (kill your teevee)
So here's the deal. I bought a domain, and it's hosted by these people I'm managing it using something called cPanel which is like, beyond confusing for me.

I understand super-basic html, but I have no clue how to manage my uh, backend (or whatever the thing with the folders and cgi_bins (wtf?!) is called).

All I want to do is have is a frontpage with this picture on it, and have a folder for nsync media files (so I can link them). I don't want a real website, I just want it to be, essentially a file dumping ground. So how do I do this?

My index manager looks like this, and I've got no clue what any of the folders are. If I just want to create the frontpage, are any of these the one I want?

Please please please help, I'm such a plebe, dude I've got no clue. *is clearly not above begging*

Well, as long as you already have the index page/front page created, you just need to upload it. Click the little folder icon next to "public_html". it will take you to the place you need to be.

After that loads, click the black arrow next to "Upload file(s)".

Upload your files.

if you need more than that, let me know.

Ok, I have an html file written for the frontpage, and I uploaded it in the public_html folder, but when I go to my site it gives me a 403 error. Do I need to change my permissions (the file I uploaded is at 644 right now) or is there something else I'm missing? Also do I need to name the file anything special or does that even matter?

that page needs to be named index.html (or index.htm - whichever type you saved it as)

Oh yay! Thank you so much! I don't know what I'd do without my friendslist.

So you just need to know where to go from there? You're not asking for help in making the index page, right? LOL Just checking! Okay, what you need to do is double-click on the "public_html" folder and go hog wild. That's where all your .html and image/video/audio files should go. So, once you're in "public_html" you can make new folders like "images" or "audio" or whatever you need. :)

I hope that helps! :)
