I'm all jittery right now. I guess that's normal when you've just been about 6 inches from possible death by bus crushing? I refer you to this entry from almost exactly a year ago in which another dumbass driver ran into me.
I'm sure you are all more conscientious drivers than most of the people I come across while riding my bike but I would like to remind you all that bicyclists have all the same rights as a car and are allowed to take up an entire lane if necessary for their safety. It is also written in the law that cars must give bicyclists a three foot margin while attempting to overtake a person on a bike. I would also like to note that the fact that bicyclists have the same rights as a car also means that they have the same responsibility as a car. Cyclists must stop at stop signs and red lights, and should, generally stay to the right when there is room to share the lane.
Okay, I think the chinese food I just ate helped my nerves a little bit. I'm still sort of shaky though. All drivers have a responsibility which comes from being in control of a machine as large and powerful as a car, but bus drivers have a greater one, both for the safety of the people inside the bus and those outside of it because of the sheer size of the vehicle they're in charge of.
Fuck. I hate motorists in general, but that was just overwhelmingly scary.

A question: do you know if those bike laws are just for California, or if they're national? Because I've been honked at and yelled at multiple times for even being on the road.
