Oh fuck. So The Boondocks Saints has eaten my brain. I just. I just really want to lick them. Or something. Seriously, if you haven't seen this move go! go rent it! rightthisverymoment!
And now: an Argument Through Pictures about why you should see this movie:
Meet the MacManus Brothers, two Irish twins who live in South Boston.

That's Connor

And this is Murphy

They move in perfect synchronicity, sleep in beds right next to each other in a shitty illegal loft, go out to pubs together, everything. They're funny and happy and so very, very desperately in love with each other. They get into bar fights and wrestle each other constantly and just generally have a good time of it. They also go to church (Irish Catholic, of course). When one of them is in trouble the other is always rightthere to back them up. So when Conner and Murphy get in into some trouble with the Russian mob they know they'll do anything to save the other one.

Witness Connor getting handcuffed to a toilet and screaming for Murphy as Murph's being dragged outside to get shot.

See that look? That one there? That's Murphy telling Conner that it's on, that these fuckers are going down one way or another.

one way or another ends up being Connor tearing a fucking toilet out of the wall and jumping down five fucking stories to the alley to save Murphy.

Who then picks up all 180 some-odd pounds of brother and runs him to the fucking hospital.
Yeah. They love each other. There's more though, not only do they move in syncronicity, and have the ability to know exactly what the other's thinking without need for words, they're both woken up from the same dream knowing that their God-given duty is to "Destroy that which is evil so that which is good may flourish" So they start killing off mobsters in true badass vigilante fashion.

Conclusion? This movie fucking rocks. It's funny as hell, and totally badass, and these guys are amazing. I saw it a long time ago and noticed the slash potential but it wasn't until a few days ago that I got the urge to see it again mostly thanks to
ladyjackyl who just saw i for the first time last week. And now I'm slightly dismayed to announce that my brain has, in fact been eaten by those two men up there. Also, you know by the FIC. Because fandoms have this horrible ability to completely take over my head and I missed my class yesterday morning because I had stayed up til 5am READING FANFICTION. But at least I got some good fic out of it right?

The Already Crazy series by
stewardess_lotr. Mmmmmmm this is probably my favorite of the stories I'll be talking about today because it's just, brilliantly written and so fucking awesome, and LONG. I love long stories and this one is just perfect. It's a series of nine, increasingly long stories that follow Connor and Murphy from the ages of 10 to 18. Stewardess did her research for this, she put in obvious amounts of time into writing a thoroughly believable backstory for the twins. And her voices for them are practically flawless. There's angst and happiness and she writes about their relationship, how it's evolved and is evolving, which is one of my favorite aspects of fic in this fandom. The twins have this incredible, intense relationship. They're this indestructable, unbreakable, insulated unit. They are, in every sense of the word, a pair. And that intensity, that starkly obvious lovedesperationneed for each other is an awesome jumping off point for writers because it's interesting.
perseph2hades is a good Connor/Murphy writer. Her stories are all here, there's not very many of them, and none are all that long so I'm not going to go into detail about any of them except to say that
perseph2hades has a good hold on their voices and their relationship.
lassiterfics is another talented writer, her stories are all in her memories here. Again, I really wish that she wrote longer stories, but what she has written is uniformly of the good. Also, One Long Dying Twilight has the boys and duct tape and god that's a good combination, isn't it?
lux__aeterna's stories are here and I'm just a big repeating machine because again with the short but really well written.

veronamay is a good one. I'm, hmm well I guess it took me a while to be convinced that the characterization is on target, but she did, convince me that is. I have a hard time reading stories where Conner and Murphy have a problem that they can't/won't talk to eachother about because DUDE. These guys are fucking attached at the hip possessive/protective, codependent, whatever and I have a pretty hard time getting around the idea that anything could get in the way of that. That said, this story does a good job of a) convincing me and b) telling a pretty awesome story. It's set slightly before and during the movie timeline and goes through some of the events from Conner's perspective. And it's just plain cool.
goodtwin is another good writer, stories here, and there are a LOT of them (all pretty short) but yeah, the quality is good.
calvin_would has written at least a couple Boondocks stories, but doesn't have them linked anywhere easy to find. My best suggestion would be scrolling through the archives of
bds_fic. Choir Loft is a pretty cool glimpse at the twins in their younger days.
Um, I have more recs but lj keeps giving me some fucked up error when I try to get at my memories and I'm also really tired. So conclusions. Go see this movie. Go read this fic. And then come back here and tell me everything you think because I'm desperate to talk about it.

that's a whole truckload of YESes coming your way. You might want to watch out for them.
I never thought another movie could get between me and lock stock, but... wrong!
Love!!!
So best movie rec EVER! Thanks :D
(also bought the Suicide Kings for $5, because last scene with SPF without a shirt? Nice)
And so utterly fucking awesome and badass is a perfect way to describe the movie! And there's a Part II comming out! Dear lord!
btw, do you still have the soundtrack linked to one of your journal entries? I'd still love to download it if you have it up.
And now that I'm thinking about it, I was wondering if you'd like to talk *N Sync with me? :D
You wanna talk NYSNC? I'm down. Do you have a favorite guy/song/album/etc? I've never been able to choose a favorite album because they're all so different. Part of me is a complete sucker for the sheer cheesyness of the debut. No Strings surprised me when it came out, it was so much angrier than the debut, and much more edgy. Celbrity seems like it was a natural progression for them, I really love that album too. Hearing such different sounds from them, and such a maturation of their sound in general makes me both sad and curious about what they would come up with next if they got back together. I'm still holding out hope of course, but I'm not exactly holding my breath. I can only imagine how cool it would be to have those guys write new music together.
I remember when they performed Bye Bye Bye for the first time in public, it was on a WB awards show or some sort and GOD. It was SO angry. They were all vibrating with energy and just PUNCHING out the dance moves and oh man, I just about died from the sheer joy of seeing them perform something new because everything was so up in the air until that point. My firends and I bought tickets to see them on that tour. They ended up cancelling the show and rescheduled it at the end of the tour. We waited something like 268 days for them. I made one of those paper chains out of oragami paper and took one link off for each day. My friends and I made eachother cards with nsync pictures and the number of days left. And the show was worth it, crappy seats and all. I don't think I've ever had such a high after a show before or since.
Yeah so what did you want to talk about? I'm more than happy to dish.
Yeah, Thank You, I downloaded the soundtrack. It's wonderful. And the Suicide Kings is awesome. Has a little bit of everyone in the movie.
Ah, NSYNC. When I was 16 I just adored them. When I discovered them, the gas was running low on the BSB love. Then one day, while skimming a BOP magazine (hell I loved those magazines then) I saw Justin. I thought, omg I used to love you when you were on MMC. Then I saw J.C. and thought, dear, I'm fangirling over the wrong boy band. And really then that's what set the stage. I went out and bought the CD and maybe a month or two later the Disney Special came on, that was really the setting stone there.
I went out and bought all the gimmic merchandise that steals your money, tape recorded every apperance that they had on tv. Hell, I bought one of those giant pencil things for a dollar just because it had little photos of them all over. But the sad thing was, I was the only person I knew who dug them. My group of friends at the time where theater junkies, and my background in music likes were either alternative or R&B, from whenever I lived in Alameda, CA. So this was something that I thought was either, really different, or very humiliating. Then I met Heather and Nicole. Two Best Friends who loved them just as me.
We all became really great friends, shared Justin love. Though Nicole loved JC and Lance. It was cute. I remember Heather and I camped out for tickets for I think, thier second tour? We did Boloxi and Baton Rouge. I was so excited, because one night we had second row seats. Took pictures and everything. I went on to go to two more shows in New Orleans, where I got to meet Lance, Joey, and Justin, but they cost an arm and an leg. So really, that was it for me.
I Loved the frist album. More than Feeling, in all it's Boston cornball love was my favorite song.
And dear god I remember that performance! At the time I thought, with all the legal battles, the group just wouldn't be the same, the sound would of course be different, but to a point of me not caring for it. But Bye, Bye, Bye proved me wrong. No Strings Attached I do have to say is my favorite out of the trio.
By the time Celebrity came out, I still loved the group, but the love wasn't as intense when I first discovered them. And the sound was something that was polar to what really digging at the time. I still hope for a fourth, prove them wrong album. But with the time that has passed, and where in the hell is Chris? I don't know.
I see Justin and think how wonderfully he has grown up to be such a mature, just damn hot young man, and I realize that maybe a next album wouldn't be needed. They've all evovled so much.
God, I loved them. Makes me now regret my thoughts of selling all my NYSNC merch on ebay now. (Two boxes full, omg).
