You guys are all fascinating. Seriously. You always make me think and expand my horizons and veiwpoints.

Today around livejournal (ie stuff that made me ______):

[livejournal.com profile] thamiris's post on anonymity. I really can't get behind that veiwpoint at all. I think a lot of people do use anonymous commenting to protect themselves from having to stand up for what they want to say, but I think it's a valuable and interesting tool too. Anonymous comments have to be taken with a grain (or a large boulder) of salt. But I don't think the answer to people's perceived (mis)use of anonymous comments is to ban them entirely.

[livejournal.com profile] resonant8's post asking people what the voices their heads say and who they are. I always feel weird when my answers to questions like this deviate from the mean so radically. I honestly don't have voices in my head of my parents or anyone else. When I make a Big Life Decision, or even small decisions I'm on my own. I usually end up weighing what my parents want me to do against what I want to do but if they don't mesh, I go for what I want and I've never questioned it afterwards either. Actually that's pretty much how I approach life. Once I've made a decision or done something I don't tend to look back and question it. I don't have very many regrets about my life, honestly, besides wishing I had spent more time with loved ones who have died, I don't have any real regrets. I guess I'm just not the self-doubt type, but since it seems like most people are, I'm left wondering, ironically, if I'm the weird one.

[livejournal.com profile] embitca is taking a year off to bead things but she needs people to help subsidize her new lifestyle. Send help!

Lastly, and unrelated to things other people have posted:

I got bored the other day and bought a new domain. It's killerstar.net. I'm thinking about going with powweb for hosting because holy shit 300gigabytes per month for only $7.77 is insane! But then, okay seriously, what would I do with all that bandwidth? I'm planning on hosting smallville eps again, but what other shows would you guys be interested in? House, Veronica Mars? The West Wing? Lost? Something else? Give me ideas, okay?

I wouldn't mind seeing some Veronica Mars, except I'm on dialup for another six weeks or so.

R.e. anonymity, I agree with you. On the other hand, a while back someone created some kind of spambot or something to post paens to the movie "The Passion of the Christ" as comments in random peoples' LJs, and that was REALLY annoying. I turned off anonymous commenting to avoid getting any more of those, and I haven't really felt moved to turn it back on. If I was the kind of person who posted things that attracted anonymous commenters, I would turn it back on, because you're right, those kinds of comments can be interesting, while also being ultimately harmless. But, eh, all I would probably get would be anonymous spam, so.

If you sign up to Dreamhost for their 2.4GB, 120GB transfer plan, it's $22.70 for a whole year if you use the promo code "isilya". I don't get anything if you do, so don't fret that I'm suggesting it for nefarious reasons. :)
