Dear flist, thank you for stroking my ego feel free to do it anytime, really. I might even smile next time.

[livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon just reminded my why, exactly, I love fanfic so much. She's written the most delicious piece of Ocean's 11 fic one could possibly hope for. Seriously, it's fucking fantastic. Go read it now.

[livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn is a dear and has uploaded the first two episodes of Veronica Mars for me. I'm totally hooked! She only has the first 6 episodes though, so I'm just gonna get down on my knees and lick people beg you lot to come through, do any of you have the rest? *knee begging* eta actually I am looking for episodes 7-12 now. Anyone, anyone?

Yeah I've got nothing else.

new roommate

So I ended up finding a roommate on craigslist, she goes to the same school as me and seems pretty nice, so I'm really hoping that we can at least live peacefully although I have my doubts about finding a new best friend. She is in a sorority. Have any of you guys ever been in one? I guess the sororities at my school aren't really your typical sorority, for instance the one she's in doesn't have a house and she says that she mostly did it to meet people when she transfered. I am pretty much the exact opposite of a sorority girl, what with the whole feminist, radical politics, activism thing. But uh, sorority!flatmate (as I'll probably be referring to her from now on) was pretty much the best person for the place, so here's hoping. I'm mentioning all this because she is, at the very moment, moving in. She has a lot of stuff! Thus endeth the real-life portion of today's post.

In fannish things: [livejournal.com profile] eisakay generously shared Michael Rosenbaum's latest appearance on Carson Daly's show. In it, he does impressions of Clint Eastwood, Buffalo Bill (from SIlence of the Lambs), Christopher Walken, John Malkovich, and my personal favorite, Kevin Spacey. Carson is a complete tool decent interviewer (at least with Michael). They're having a lot of fun. Also, I think Carson's a little in love with him.
[ Michael Rosenbaum - carson daly - 050202 ] -- mpg, 81.7mb
Watching this tickled my memory though, because I just knew that MIchael had another encounter with Spacey that he talked about once. So I dug through my media files and sure enough, I was right. Here's Michael talking with Conan (aka my favorite late night host EVER) at some unknown point in history. (or not so unknown since the file says 01-14-03) The guy does a good Spacey, and when he does it I can finally beleive that Spacey will make a good Lex Luthor.

I finished watching Season 4 of Angel now I just have to wait for season 5 to come out. Also I really want to get season 3 of The West Wing. I've been dropping not-so-subtle hints to my parents of the "it's never a bad time to buy me things" variety. So far no luck.

I don't know how many of you watched Angel or read the fic but if you've seen Not Fade Away you have to go read Pinch Me by [livejournal.com profile] itsabigrock. It's post NFA and Angel/Spike (but not in that obnoxious sire-childe way so pay no attention to the pairing if it's not usually your thing). It's possibly one of the best Angel-verse stories I've ever read. [livejournal.com profile] itsabigrock calls it "A Shanshu tale, of sorts." and it's just gorgeous. So atmospheric and god, just painfully good. This is how fanfic should be written.

recs and media

Recs copy-pasted from my recs journal (the poorly named) [livejournal.com profile] anti_recs:

  • None So Blind by [livejournal.com profile] pun. Master and Commander: Stephen/Jack. The M&C universe fascinates me, O'Brien was a really brilliant writer, and very specific in his character's voices, which is why it's so hard for fic writers to get it right. But [livejournal.com profile] pun does it masterfully (excuse the bad-pun (omg another one!)), her voces were, I thought, spot on and while this is a fairly short story, I thought is was a great take one Jack and Stephen's dynamic.

  • Jeeves and the Blessed Indiscretion by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. Jeeves and Wooster: Jeeves/Wooster. This was written for the Yuletide challenge this year, and someone on my flist recced it. Until then I hadn't any clue that Jeeves and Wooster fanfic even existed, but color me pleasantly surprised. [livejournal.com profile] astolat is an incredibly talented writer in any fandom (her webpage is here) and Jeeves and Wooster is no exception. This story is perfectly Wodehouse in every turn of phrase. If you've ever picked up one of the Jeeves and Wooster books or seen the tv series you must read this story.

  • And the same thing goes for Wooster's School for Wayward Girls by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63. Jeeves and Wooster: Jeeves/Wooster. This was also written for the yultide challenge and it too is brilliant.

  • I would now like to point out [livejournal.com profile] flambeau at this point because she's the only other Jeeves and Wooster writer than I know of and her stories are also great. Webpage here.

And now onto the media (right click and save as please!) also comments telling me you're downloading are always appreciated.

[ Tegan And Sara - Walking WIth a Ghost ] -- mp3. From Amazon's descrition of their album So Jealous: They are, yes, identical twin lesbians, and they do occupy the space--more like a vacuum, really--between the riot-grrl menace of Sleater-Kinney and the un-fun folk of Indigo Girls. This song is really fun, I like their sound a lot.

[ The Killers - Somebody Told Me ] -- mp3. From Amazon's description of their debut album Hot Fuss: The Killers match postpunk guitars with an overlay of synthesizer that recalls '80s New Wave without burying their sound in nostalgia.

    [ The Killers - Mr. Brightside ] -- mp3.

From [livejournal.com profile] eisakay: Michael Rosenbaum on Tony Danza's show yesterday
    [ right click ] -- mpg, 56.48mb
From [livejournal.com profile] fuskeez here's JC from I Love The 90s: Part Deux. All six clips edited into one file with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kari3124 for posting the separate files originally.
    [ JC - I Love The 90s: Part Deux ] -- mpg, 25.5mb
Also from [livejournal.com profile] fuskeez but originally from [livejournal.com profile] kirsch a small piece of JC on Best Week Ever. They used an old clip of him to play against the story of Eva and her vibrator.
    [ JC- Best Week Ever ] -- avi, 3.36mb
And finally something a little different, but some of you comic geek types might enjoy it. One of my friends gave me the first season of The X-Men cartoon. I don't know how many of you were into it but I watched this cartoon every. single. saturday for years so this is like, the ultimate cool for me. I uploaded the first three episodes in case anyone's interested. And if you are please, please please let me know you downloaded them because I can upload the rest of the episodes.
    [ X-Men 1x01 and 1x02- Night of the Sentinels ] -- avi, 151mb
    [ X-Men 1x03- Enter Magneto ] -- mpg, 73.9mb
    Enjoy!

    New Apartment!

Hullo. I am writing from my new apartment. On a stolen internet connection no less. I moved in today and unpacked all the important stuff: bed, dvds, computer. My hands are killing me from all of the carrying. I need some callouses, I don't have any, it's quite painful.

However, I'm now watching the 7th season of Buffy. Merry Christmas to me. Also, dude, I love these Spike centric episodes. Fucking brilliant. Even if I don't always agree with what the writers have done with him, Spike is the best character ever. Also? I hate Principal Wood.

eta dude, everyone needs to go read these stories:

No Darker Than Yours by [livejournal.com profile] rivkat. Smallville I don't even know how to explain this except to insist that everyone read it. There's Clark, and Lex, and Bruce and the characterization is amazing and intricate and Utterly Fucking Cool.

Things That Seem by anonymous. Harry Potter H/D. Written for the Harry Potter [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas challenge, the story is really cool, a look at the world that could have been if Voldemort had never existed.

In The Shadow of His Wings part 9 by [livejournal.com profile] mirabellawotr Harry Potter (WIP warning)

Living the Life That You Dreamed by Terri. Popslash JuC. Really cool AU.

-I've finally filled my icon quota. I never thought I'd know what to do with 50 icons, so I'm pleased.

-That guy I played pool with last week? The one from my english class? Is a really bad writer. We had to exchange papers and type them up to email our prof. His is pretty miserable. I mean honestly, first he tells me that he doesn't like to read, and then he spells warrant, certain, and response wrong every time he uses them. Added to this, he actually wrote in favor of the Patriot Act. Ugh. I'm not even sure I'll be able to look at him next week after all this.

-I watched Footloose for the first time today. Oh man. So classic! I really feel that modern dance is missing out on a lot of quality moves. For instance, no one performs flips and uses gymnastics anymore. There is also a distinct lack of solo!emotive!dancing! going on in public these days. Very sad.

-[livejournal.com profile] andrealyn gave me the coolest christmas present ever. She dedicated her new West Wing story to me! You all must go read it because it's Sam and Josh and Donna is in it and it's brilliant. The Bad Case of Loving You Go read!

-I have been listening to this song for the past week straight. I first heard in on Radio KOL, The Kingdom of Loathing internet radio station. KOL is the funniest online game ever, and the radio station is basically on par with any college radio station, except you can email in mp3s of songs you want to hear and they'll play them. Oh man, I'm so addicted to radio kol. It's awesome. You should all play the game and listen to the radio station too. Er, back to the song, my original point. It's by a band called the Dresden Dolls. Their website is here; you can download several songs from that site, also check out the video for this song, it's really good. Here's the song I'm talking about (rightclick save as).

    rain, rommates, and recs

    life things

Woke up this morning at 7:30 to a sweltering room, a rainstorm outside, and my clock flashing 2:20am.

The power had gone out, I didn't have another clock anywhere and my phone was in my car so I had to turn my computer on to make sure I wasn't late for school. It turns out I woke up a half hour before my alarm was set to go off, sometimes I genuinely love my internal clock for saving me from power outages and alarms that wouldn't have gone off (most of the time I curse it for waking me up before I actually need to wake up.)

As for the sweltering hot bedroom: evidently my inept roommate turned on the heating without so much as mentioning it to anyone else in the house. And he turned the bloody thing on to 70º. So I had to get out of bed and turn it off. Also, it was making this bizarre high pitched whine, I don;t know if I should be scared that the thing will explode or what. It wasn't even that cold out last night, 50º maybe, not worth the heating bills.

Then, when I came home today, the same roommate informed me that the internet was down. He said he'd reset the modem a couple times to no effect. So I asked if he had called. His response was a blank look. Evidently, the fact that the dsl bill was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO THE PHONE did nothing to help him figure out who the fuck he should have called. The boy clearly has no idea how to do things on his own. I have no clue how he's managed to keep a job seeing as how he's completely incapable of independent thought. I really dislike him sometimes.

    fandom things:

Stories I have been reading lately:

[ Phoenix Song ] by [livejournal.com profile] xylodemon Harry Potter, H/D, novel-length, chaptered.

[ Moment by Moment ] by [livejournal.com profile] topaz119 Popslash, JuC.

[ The First Four Years ] by [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun Smallville, Clark/Lex

sort of like a pity party but more fun

Since I am on my mother's useless computer and I have no bookmarks of links for at least a week (more if my hard drive proves to be unrecoverable) I think you all should give me recs and links and stuff to do. So I want you all to tell me:

--your favorite time sucking online game.

--your favorite fanfic authors who you have read everything by.

--your top three stories that you read and go back to over and over.

Essentially, this is shameless begging. Rec me stories, lots of them! You know you want to.
